I'll give you a little bit of background about our company & diapers.

ABOUT BOOTY BUNS CLOTH DIAPERS:

 Many babies living in third world countries aren't afforded the same diapering luxuries we have in the US. Their parents don't have to think about whether they will use disposables or not, because they simply cannot afford them {its costs on average $1800-2000 to disposable diaper your baby from birth to potty training}. Instead, parents wrap their little baby's booties in old t-shirts or sheets to catch the solids. Many of them only have a few of these 'shirt diapers' so they are unable to change their baby each time they go potty, and wait until they have a BM before changing them.

; and, that is exactly why for each cloth diaper we sell, we will donate one to a baby in need in one of these third world countries.

Since my husband served a 2 year mission in Bolivia, it is near and dear to his heart; so, Bolivia is the first place we want to make a Diaper Run™ to. We have been speaking with some Mexican orphanages so they will not be far behind Bolivia with our second Diaper Run™.

ABOUT OUR DIAPERS: 

Our patent pending design is a OS{one size} Pocket Diaper, that fits from 3-45 pounds. We are the only OS cloth diaper that can fit this wide range of sizes with just one diaper. Each diaper has 2 elastic gussets sewn into the inner liner & another elastic strip add to the back of the diaper to better contain even the messiest of explosions. 

The diapers were designed by a mom who has not only your baby, but your budget in mind. She was frustrated that if she wanted to cloth diaper her baby, she had to buy 2-3 sets to cover all the sizes her baby would be between birth & potty training. She couldn't understand why a diaper was called 'ONE SIZE' if not all babies are 8-10 pounds at birth, or 30-35 pounds when potty training. Her family is on tight budget & couldn't justify buying 2-3 sets of cloth diapers, and knew that there are many other families in the same boat. This is exactly why she designed The Original Booty with the ability to mimic disposable diaper sizing from preemie to potty training pants.

She thought it was silly that many OS cloth diapers require multiple inserts for different stages of diapering - newborn needing small inserts and toddlers needing 2 inserts, yet most companies only give you one insert, forcing you to either buy an additional insert or sew them on your own. To put an end to the madness, she decided that it was best to just put 2 inserts in each diaper. So she includes 1 newborn size & 1 large size insert with each diaper, eliminating the need to order them on the side.

While searching for used cloth diapers online, she noticed that many of them contained BM stains. She doesn't like stains; so, she searched for solutions & the internet only offered disposable liners. Her baby had a bad reaction to them so she needed another option. She wanted to have a thin barrier between BM and her diapers, so to protect the diapers from stains & make BMs cleanup easier while also helping babies who may have a sensitivity to microfiber, she created a 100% cotton flannel liner that she sews and includes with each diaper. 

Something else she noticed was that while there are many cloth diapers companies that sell cloth wipes, NONE of them give you a wipe with the diapers you buy.  It just didn't make sense to her that you get the diaper but no wipe - its like ordering a PB&J and having to pay extra for the jelly. For this reason, she sews a matching double sided cloth wipe to include with each cloth diaper. Each 7.5" x 7.5" wipe comes with a 100% cotton flannel side & a jersey micro-terry cloth side.

 

She really did her homework in creating these cloth diapers!

 

Being a mom of multiple children with limited time & money, she sought a truly one-size-fits-all & gives all diaper; however, since nobody offers what she wanted and needed, she decided to create it & offer it to other moms & dads who seek to cut the fat in cloth diapering & get everything they need all at once - included with the diapers.

Gardening In Small Spaces

Today I want to share some ideas about sustainable living, well mostly growing your own food, and doing so in limited space. Growing your own food is something that we all should be aware of and be able to to do, because not only it good for the environment {pesticide free}, but you never know when you made need to to get out there and do it ~ plus, fresh, live foods like fruits and veggies are necessary staples of sustainable living.


First and foremost, let me just say that 
I LOOOOOOOVE fresh fruits & veggies!!!!
I've noticed the difference in my body when I go on vacation
and don't get enough of them in my diet.
My body craves them & I could eat them all day long!!

YUUUUMMMMMM

I have also found a new love for gardening. Its also something that I always wanted to do, but I was very unsuccessful when it came to keeping plants alive. So this article is written for me & those of you like me!

My mother in law, on the other hand has a very green thumb & I have been taking notes! She always has beautiful flowers surrounding her house & this past year she planted several veggies and some strawberries with my oldest daughter. She mentioned a few times that she wished she had more space in her back yard to plant more things. This is a feeling that I've shared over the years since I have mostly lived in apartments {I also wanted to keep the plants alive, but she already has that part down}.

Since I know we are not the only people who wish for more garden space, I searched & gathered some great ideas for small space gardening.

Here are some of my favorite ideas for small backyards and apartments:

G Living has a really cool video showing you how to fill & hang a wall garden. The video show regular plants, but you can probably use some veggies that have small roots.

 Low Impact Living had this really cool picture. I have scoured the internet looking for a tutorial on how to make this wall garden, but I have been unsuccessful. I found that it was made my Jill Bert, but bot instructions. Super cute though!

Tournesol Siteworks sells vertical garden kits so you can install your own at home.  

They installed this one at Pizzaria Mozza in LA.

 I found this little beauty while playing around on Pinterest. You can buy plans for your own roof garden from Living Roofs Inc. For some reason, it makes me think of Snow White. 

Don't have a wall to garden on? No problem-o!! 

Here are some cool ideas for apartment gardens:

Life On The Balcony has a great tutorial for how to make a pallet garden.

I found this picture on Apartment Therapy, but there is no tutorial. The picture originally came from Mat The W on flicker. It seems pretty easy to do, just cut the tops off plastic bottles & hang. The picture shows them hanging on a chain link fence {BRILLIANT!}; however, you could find any number of things to hang them from if you don't have a fence. You could pick up some wooden lattice at a home improvement store & set this up on your apartment balcony!

Gutter gardens are becoming my new favorite idea!

I found this really cool gutter garden on Flicker. I wish that Flicker pictures came with instructions because this is something I really want to make! It looks pretty easy, but its always easier when some one else gives you the directions ~ sorry guys, its to great not to share!

The Highland Peoples Food Seed Bank has an awesome tutorial for
creating your own gutter garden.

I found this awesome gutter garden on Tumbler. Again, sorry there is no tutorial for it, but it looks simple enough ~ angle your gutters to the water travels from the top down. Attach them to a wall or lattice & put in the sun.

Another cool idea I found in space-saving-gardening

is to use hanging shoe organizers.

And they shared this link to Instructables where the tutorial is posted.

I found this really cool webiste called Plants On Walls where they sell these FloraFelt hangers. These things are amazing! Go check out the website and read all about them!!

DIY GREEN: Cloth V. Disposable ~ Diapers & Shopping Bags

Disposable Diapers sure do create a lot of waste. A whole lot actually. Have you ever thought about how many diapers are actually thrown away each year? Well I'll tell you, over 18 billion disposable diapers are thrown away each year!!! That's enough to reach the moon and back 9 times!!!

Or how about how a disposable diaper is actually made? Check out this power point by Rene' Rodriguez for a real eye opener, you'll find that 1 cup of crude oil is used in making 1 disposable diaper. After you finish ask yourself if you really want the same crude oil used in your car to be used in a product used on your precious little ones.

Another great resource to check out in the cloth v. disposable debate can be found in this awesome article by Heather Saunders over on the Diaper Pin. Its baffling that this information is not a required part of every prenatal class. I wonder how many new parents would leave the hospitals with the free disposables if they were informed before they left. The nurses teach moms about the benefits of breastfeeding both for baby and mom; would it really be that are to throw in a plug about the benefits of  cloth diapers? When you take a second to step back and look at all the things we do as people to hurt our planet, it is astounding. Luckily, there are many things we can do to preserve this beautiful planet we live on while ridding our lives of unnecessary chemicals and waste. Well, one of the simplest ways to go green is to use reusable grocery bags. Some California cities have passed laws that ban plastic bags from grocery stores and charge you a small fee if you forget your reusable bags. The impact of plastic bags is huge. Did you know that most plastic bags aren't recycled since it is difficult to do so? Perhaps this is why some countries & cities are urging consumers to bring their own reusable bags on their shopping trips.

A reusable bag is better for the environment regardless of what it is made from, as long as it is used at least four times, according to a 2004 study by the French retailer Carrefour.

Cloth Wipes + Simple Solution

I am not sure why, but when we first started using cloth diapers, I was nervous about using cloth wipes. I can't think of any good reason why, maybe I was just scared of trying something new. Needless to say, for the first several months we used disposable wipes, mostly because we had a stockpile of them, but also so I could stay in my comfort zone. Anyways, we sometimes left the wipes in the diapers & I would have to sort them at the washing machine. After so long, I decided that I need to venture into the unknown, well at least unexplored in our house & stop sorting diapers from disposable wipes!

And oh my wow! I love cloth wipes!!!! I noticed that our baby is so much easier to clean up & we've only had a couple of times we needed more than one wipe. I can't believe I didn't start using cloth wipes sooner!

I was also a little concerned about what solution I should use for the cloth wipes. When I scoured the internet for an answer I ran into way too many recipes and most of them call for enough things to deter me.  I decided that to in order to be time & cost effective I would make my own simple solution & go from there. I told myself that if she had any problems with it, I would use one of the recipes online. 

Since she responded so well I decided that I would share 

this oh so simple solution with all of you . . .

Are you ready for it???

OK, here goes:

1-2 ts {or 2 pumps} of baby shampoo

4-5 C warm water

Put the shampoo in a 4-5 container {like the ones used in food storage}, then fill with warm water.

Easy peasy!

The water eventually turns room temp or colder; so, I soak the wipe in the solution, then put it on a plate in the microwave for 15 seconds. Since some microwaves vary, the time may vary as well. The cloth will cool pretty quickly if you have it open & unfolded, so don't worry if its a little hot coming out.  We don't own a wipes warmer, but you might be able to use this solution in one of those. I think you'd just have to keep it in a disposable wipe case.  

My husband, however, doesn't even bother warming it up & the baby doesn't seem to notice.  So, warming the wipe maybe an unnecessary step ;)
