Dirty Dozen/Clean 15 Cheat Sheet

In an effort to get back into the healthy eating groove, I have recently been making an effort to buy and serve more organic foods to my family. I have even considered taking online college classes to learn more about nutrition. I'll admit that I have been a bit overwhelmed by all the organic things that there are; I mean, do you really need organic junk food?

After reading tons of books and articles about organic eating, I have come to the conclusion that some foods really do taste better when they are organic & I can't tell a difference with others.  I have also noticed that foods taste better when they are in season.

Things that I think are better when they are organic:

* all lettuce & spinach
* carrots
* apples
* all berries
* peaches
* champagne grapes (they are soooo sweet!)
* bell peppers (the green ones are gross either way)
* tomatoes (homegrown = best food ever!)

Things I can't tell the difference between organic and non organic:

* any kind of potatoes
* bananas
* avocados
* onions
* broccoli & cauliflower
* all citrus varieties
* kiwis
* corn
* pineapple
* watermelon (small varieties are sweetest when in season)
* most squash varieties

Eventually it gets easier to know what to buy organic & what you don't have to worry about so much. In the mean time I found this cool Dirty Dozen/Clean 15 Cheat Sheet over on Balancing Beauty & Bedlam that I wanted to share with everyone:

Feel free to print it up and take it with you next time you go shopping to help you decide what organic foods to try!

What foods do you love to eat organic & which ones can you not tell the difference with?

  3. Thanks for the cheat sheet, it's great. I really don't do organic much in the winter. Our local farmers market is only open on Saturdays and is a bit far without a car. But I will definitely down load this and keep it for future visits. Thanks

  6. Thanks for the cheat sheet. The only thing that I really am absolutely particular to buy organic is apples (at least with the items I buy for my children, I know there are other things that really should only be eaten organic)
